Freemantle Church of England Community Academy
Charging and Remissions Policy
Freemantle Church of England Community Academy offers a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at meeting the needs of all children to ensure that they enjoy their education and achieve to the best of their ability. Additional activities may be offered to further enhance the educational experience.
It is the Board of Directors’ intention that all pupils should have an equal opportunity to benefit from Academy activities although some activities offered to the pupils will incur a charge.
The Board of Directors’ recognises its responsibility to ensure that the offer of activities and educational visits does not place an unnecessary burden on family finances. To this end we will try to adhere to the following guidelines:
where possible we shall publish a list of visits (and their approximate cost) at the beginning of the academic year so that parents/carers can plan ahead
we have an online payment system for parents/carers to pay by instalments should the cost of a visit or activity warrant it
Activities during Academy hours
No charges are made for education during Academy hours. Academy hours are those when the Academy is in session and do not include the break in the middle of the Academy day.
The Academy provides some activities during Academy hours for which a termly voluntary donation is requested. Where there are not sufficient contributions to make the activity possible, and there is no way to make up the shortfall, the activity will be cancelled.
Charges for the ingredients/materials for activities where a product is produced which the child will take home are included in the termly voluntary contribution.
All children are expected to take part in recorder lessons and will purchase a recorder.
In the event of loss or damage to library books, the cost of replacement will be requested from parents.
Parents requesting passport applications to be completed by Academy staff will be asked to make a voluntary contribution of £5 per passport.
Activities outside Academy hours
Charges will be made for activities outside Academy hours, including after school clubs and childcare.
Parents/carers who are in receipt of the following benefits should speak to the Centre Director to discuss any remission or help:
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;
support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
Child Tax Credit, provided that Working Tax Credit is not also received and the family’s income (as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs) does not exceed the sum given in the Revenue and Customs rules;
the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit;
an income-related employment and support allowance that was introduced on 27 October 2008.
