We would like to say that we are so proud of all of our pupils and their resilience and attitude in what has been a difficult year and a half, thanks you wonderful children you are FAB. A special mention to the year 6 pupils who leave us today; we sincerely wish you the very best as you move to secondary school, but offer an open invitation if any of you would like to come and see us in the future......... keep us informed of how things are going. Stay safe over the summer period and we look forward to seeing everone back on Thursday 2nd September- bright eyed and bushy tailed. .................. please keep an eye out for parentmails during the summer break as there is lots to share with you all........................Let us hope that next year is 'normal' and that we can enjoy being together in class and in school. Thanks to all the parents that have worked so hard to help their children through lockdowns, both academically and emotionally...........we know how difficult it was. Stay safe!

Writing Workshop

Thank you for taking the time to visit our class page. Due to the current climate we are unable to hold parent workshops in school as we normally would. We hope the video below is useful for explaining how writing will work in Year 5 this year.

Grammar can sometimes be complicated with all of the different terms we need to learn so we have uploaded a glossary of terms below.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Phonics Workshop

In Key Stage 2, children learn new spellings rules as set out by the national curriculum. However, your child may still be accessing phonics to help them to read and write. Phonics allows pupils to hear, identify and use different sounds.

Please see the video, links and documents below which outline how we teach phonics and offer guidance on how to support your child home.

Thank you for your continuing support throughout this difficult year.

Reading Workshop

Usually at this point in the year, the Year 5 team would invite parents and carers into Freemantle for a series of workshops where we would discuss the year ahead and how you can support your child to achieve highly.

This year, due to Covid-19, we cannot currently do this, so instead we will be releasing a series of videos addressing the points we would normally discuss in these sessions. The first workshop video focuses on reading, which is the most important thing your child should be doing to help them have a successful year in school and reduce the impact the gap in their learning could have on their long-term education.

Please see the short reading videos below. The first will guide you through how to use Accelerated Reader, our new reading-support program that also ties into homework for this year at home and how to access information about your child’s reading ability and progress. The second contains information about reading at Freemantle, homework this year and how you can support your child to maximise the reading they do at home so that they can enjoy the many benefits reading for pleasure has on their education. Both will help you to help your child do well in school this year.

Thank you for your support in this important year.
